Portugal, Coseteng triumph at Clark

CLARK FREEPORT—Dondon Portugal emerged champion of the final leg while Jody Coseteng of Eagle Cement Racing formally bagged the Overall plum of the 2013 Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring Car Championships that concluded recently at Clark International Speedway here.

It was the second win for Portugal, the Mayor of the Taysan municipality in Batangas, since his season debut in the third leg also here in Clark.

The series is part of the 2013 Petronas Philippine Motorsports Championships Season sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines.

Coseteng, after ruling the Sprint race, nearly scored a sweep until car problems slowed him down in the 15-lap GT Main Race. In a show of sportsmanship, he signaled Portugal to move ahead.

Portugal quickly wrested the lead and held on to his post to the finish line to clinch victory by 3.303 seconds ahead of Coseteng, who maintained a consistent pace to avert further damage for the runner-up finish.

Even so, Coseteng still emerged the 2013 Yokohama GT champion with 250 points.
