Amit shifts focus to SEA Games

AFTER ruling the Women’s World 10-Ball Championship for the second time in five editions, Rubilen Amit is now setting her sights on capturing two gold medals when she sees action in the Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar next month.

Amit, already the winner of four SEA Games gold medals since 2005, will compete in the 9- and 10-ball competitions of the biennial meet in the Burmese capital of Naypyidaw.

She became the latest toast of Philippine sports after winning her second world title at the expense of 2011 world champion Kelly Fisher of England, 10-7, in a pulsating final Monday night at Resorts World Manila.

“The win helps my confidence as I prepare for the SEA Games,” said Amit in the din of the celebration.

It was a steady climb back to the top for Amit, who lost one match in the group stage before coming from behind in three of her five matches in the knockout stages.

Amit has been under the radar since her world title victory in 2009, the same year she won two SEA Games golds.

Having settled for a silver in 8-ball and 9-ball events in the 2011 Games in Indonesia to compatriot Iris Rañola, Amit is hoping she continues her superb form in Myanmar.
