With newly minted world champion Rubilen Amit of the Philippines leading the charge, Team Asia stormed to an 8-3 lead over Team West in their maiden Queens Cup 10-ball duel yesterday at Resorts World Manila.
Two days removed from her second world 10-ball triumph in five years, Amit returned to the table to power the team skippered by Korean Ga Young Kim as Team Asia moved within two points from clinching the Cup.
Ahead 4-2 at the end of first day of action, Team Asia extended its lead by taking four of the five matches on Day 2 with Amit prevailing in the singles before helping the squad notch wins in doubles and three-on-three events.
Amit got Team Asia going with a 4-2 triumph over England’s Allison Fisher, before joining forces with Tsai Pei-chen of Chinese-Taipei to beat Fisher and Jasmin Ouschan of Austria, 4-2.
The Team West quartet of Kelly and Allison Fisher, Ouschan and Villareal averted a shutout for the day with a 4-1 triumph in the final match of the day.
