Naascu: UM blasts Informatics
MANILA—Jeff Alvin Viernes unloaded 31 points while last year’s Rookie-MVP Eugene Torres added 23 as University of Manila brought down Informatics, 91-81, last Saturday at the UM Gym.
The defending champion Hawks picked up their fourth straight victory in the Naascu basketball championship and tied for top spot with their victims and Our Lady of Fatima University.
UM actually had a big weekend after also picking up wins in the junior and women’s divisions. The Hawklets outlasted the Baby Phoenix, 88-79, while the Lady Hawks routed the Lady Phoenix, 73-51.
Article continues after this advertisementFatima drubbed City University of Pasay, 109-60, to match the 4-1 slates of UM and Informatics.
It was a big morale boost for the Hawks who bowed to STI, 90-72, in the inaugurals.
Last year’s second placer STI downed Centro Escolar, 60-53, while New Era blasted expansion team Trace Colleges, 72-43.
