BGC hosts inaugural Cycle PH

AUSTRALIAN cycling star Robbie McEwen leads over 2,300 cyclists in the inaugural BGC Cycle Philippines this weekend at Bonifacio Gobal City in Taguig.

McEwen, a three-time Tour de France green jersey winner who is also Cycle Asia ambassador, will head the 40K Challenge Ride.

“I’m looking forward to riding with Filipino cyclists,” McEwen, who has won over 200 races in his career, said in a recent press conference. “It’s good to see people pick up cycling for recreation.”

More than just coming over to race, McEwen also decided to auction the Tour de France green jersey he won in 2002. Proceeds of the worldwide auction will go to relief efforts for victims of Supertyphoon “Yolanda.”

“We have our share of natural disasters in Australia so I feel for the victims of the typhoon,” said McEwen. “I didn’t have to think twice to say that, yes I want to be part of [the relief efforts].”

Other events are Tricycle Ride, Kids Ride and Community Ride (20K and 40K).

Sunrise Events, Inc. chair and president Wilfred Steven Uytengsu said the main goal of the event is to promote a healthy lifestyle.

“Our goal is to stage world class events and promote a healthy lifestyle among families,” said Uytengsu. Jasmine W. Payo
