UAAP donates to victims of supertyphoon

THE UAAP lined up more than just the usual sports activities when the second-semester sports get going this month.

Pitching in to the relief efforts, the league has pooled a cash donation and organized a fund-raising basketball exhibition match to help the victims of Supertyphoon “Yolanda.”

The league will give at least P300,000 in cash, league secretary-treasurer Malou Isip said recently.  The donation will be formally turned over to ABS-CBN during the opening ceremony of the women’s volleyball tournament on Dec. 1 at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

A basketball fund-raiser initiated by season host Adamson is also set Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. at Malolos City gym.  It will feature the Soaring Falcons and PBA Legends led by alumni Kenneth Duremdes and Marlou Aquino.   All proceeds will also go the victims.

Isip said the opening rites of the second-semester sports will be low-key.  It will include the volleyball event which opens with the Ateneo-National U match at 2 p.m., followed by the 4 p.m. tussle between defending champion La Salle and Adamson. Jasmine W. Payo
