MANILA, Philippines — Forget the anticipated street party in Mendiola.
NCAA champion San Beda will only have a solemn and simple celebration of its newest feat in the league in deference to the victims of the typhoon “Yolanda.”
There won’t be a lavish festivity this year like what has come to be an annual street party — where part of Mendiola is usually closed down.
“Not this time. We couldn’t celebrate,” team manager Jude Roque told reporters after San Beda’s title-clinching 60-56 win on Saturday.
A celebratory bonfire lighting has been scheduled on November 22 at the San Beda campus in Manila, Roque said, followed by relief operations.
The Red Lions edged Letran in three games to win their seventh title in the last eight years.
