NO LESS than legendary bowler Paeng Nepomuceno will help harness young archer Luis Gabriel Moreno into world class sharpness for next year’s Youth Olympic Games in China.
Nepomuceno, four-time World Cup champion and widely considered the greatest of all time, bared that he took the 15-year-old Moreno under his wings to undergo his mental game seminars.
Moreno’s father, Federico, said psychological shape plays a very important role in archery which, like bowling, requires mental toughness. He said he wants his son to learn from the best.
Moreno and Bianca Roxas Chua-Gotuaco became the first Filipino athletes to qualify to the 2014 YOG in Nanjing, following their performances in the Asian championships and Continental Qualifying Tournament in Chinese Taipei.
Moreno bagged the gold, while Gotuaco won silver in their respective events.
Nepomuceno has been teaching top tier athletes and coaches both here and abroad for the past seven years, including World 10-ball women’s champion Rubilen Amit.
Moreno and Gotuaco reportedly got the support of the Philippine Sports Commission after making the YOG cut.
