Adamson, RTU batters crush opening day rivals

ADAMSON and Rizal Technological University routed their respective rivals yesterday at the start of the Chairman’s Baseball Classic at Rizal Memorial Baseball Park.

With Mandy Castillo fueling an early barrage, the Falcons overpowered University of Santo Tomas, 10-3, just before the opening ceremonies graced by Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia.

RTU blanked Bulacan State University, 13-0, to set the early pace in the tournament.

Castillo had a couple of singles and a run-scoring double as the Falcons zoomed to a 5-0 lead and stayed unrelenting the rest of the way to the delight of coach Orlando Binarao.

Adamson scored one more run in the second inning, before a couple of runs each in the fourth and sixth frames finished off UST, which tallied two runs in the second inning.

RTU’s ace hurlers Angelo Maghanoy and John Leis combined to hold BSU to a single hit in the abbreviated victory.
