Jackes bags 2 kart victories

FLYNN Jackes emerged as the finest Filipino driver in the recent 2013 Singapore Karting Championships with a double victory at Changi Karting Circuit.

The 10-year-old Jackes swept the Final races of Rounds 5 and 6 of Cadet class while clocking the fastest qualifying time of 49.878 seconds, the first cadet karter to break the 50-second barrier over the 1.010-kilometer track.

The quick clip made the Fil-Aussie Jackes the favorite in the eight-lap Pre-Final race where Alex Brown, Dylan Roger Bondi and William Austen were his chief challengers.

But Jackes, driving for Tuason Racing School team, pulled through in the end, beating Brown by just 0.196 of a second.

In Round 5 of the Final race, Jackes quickly pulled in front to win the crown, beating Brown by 4.216 seconds.

Brown ruled Round 6’s Pre-Final race but Jackes quickly wrested the lead at the first corner in the Final. Brown was eventually disqualified due to illegal engine modifications.

Jackes wrapped up the 12-lap Round 6 Final race in 10:17.264 seconds, 0.361 of a second clear of Dominic Quek to cap his romp.

“Flynn impressed the British trainers,” TRS founder and president JP Tuason said of Jackes, son of a Filipino mother and her Australian husband. Steve Silva, Contributor
