Straight-set wins for Army, Cignal
TMS PHILIPPINE Army and Cignal needed just three sets to whip their respective rivals yesterday in the Philippine Super Liga men’s and women’s volleyball Grand Prix at Ynares Arena in Pasig City.
After a hard-fought first set, the Lady Troopers overwhelmed the Petron Blaze Spikers, 25-23, 25-14, 25-18, while the Cignal HD tossers routed the RC Cola squad, 25-14, 25-11, 25-8.
The Lady Troopers, who bounced back from a loss to PLDT, posted their third win in four matches while Cignal improved to 2-1. Petron and RC Cola remained winless in three games.
Jovelyn Gonzaga sparked Army’s offense with 11 points behind the 12 of hard-hitting Wanitchaya Luangtonglang of Thailand. Mary Jean Balse added nine and veteran setter Tina Salak contributed seven.
