Mommy Dionisia in Pacquiao’s corner again

MACAU—A small, thin woman in winter attire with rounded shades and boots stood at the side of the living room of Manny Pacquiao’s suite at The Venetian South Monday morning.

She greeted the Manila-based sportswriters in a hoarse voice and obliged them with a quick chat.

That she lost her voice was understandable for she was caught on television shouting nonstop at ringside while Pacquiao was battering Brandon Rios without let-up Sunday.

“Don’t go there. Get out of the corner,” she shouted in Filipino.

As usual, Pacquiao’s mother, Mommy Dionisia, can’t restrain herself from being hyperactive whenever Manny fights.

Dionisia, a devout Catholic, said she resumed watching Pacquiao’s fights to provide moral and spiritual support.

“I told Manny to trust the Lord and nothing will go wrong,” said Dionisia, who was absent from Pacquiao’s last two fights in the United States to Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez.

Her favorite son dropped both bouts.

Dionisia said her other children persuaded her to watch “The Clash in Cotai” to help change Pacquiao’s fortune.

Unlike before, when she got traumatized upon seeing her son face down on the canvas against Marquez, Dionisia said she did not feel nervous this time.

She felt that with his renewed faith her loving son would rise again.
