MANILA, Philippines – University of the East overcame a resilient University of Batangas squad to fashion out an 81-60 win and advance in the stepladder Sweet 16 phase of the Luzon-Metro Manila division of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) Tuesday at Faith gym in Tanauan City, Batangas.

UE blew a 22-point halftime lead as UB came back and even took a 53-51 lead in the third quarter before the Red Warriors closed the game on a 30-7 blast since trailing.

Explosive guard Roi Sumang starred with 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for the Red Warriors, who beat Centro Escolar University Scorpions 85-77 Monday.

UE will face either National University or Perpetual Help, who booked outright Sweet 16 seats after finishing fourth in their respective leagues.

The Brahmans fought back in the third quarter as they outscored the Warriors 33-15 and even grabbed a 53-51 edge at one point in the period.

UB though, seemed as if it poured it all in the third quarter after being shut down in the final frame with just measly seven points.
