PBA: Meralco zaps Air21 behind Wilson’s career game
MANILA, Philippines – Meralco hit on all cylinders while Air21 fired blanks and the Bolts cruised to their biggest win in franchise history, 112-79, for their first victory in the 2014 PLDT MyDSL Philippine Cup Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
John Wilson poured in a career-best 26 points built on a flawless six-of-six shooting from three-point range for the Bolts, who shot 52 percent from the field.

We made sure we’re a lot better defensively,” said Meralco head coach Ryan Gregorio after his team improved to 1-2.
“John Wilson came out with an incredible effort offensively and defensively. Nice win for this new roster and hopefully it’s a step towards the right direction for us in terms of trusting each other, trusting the system we’re running and being together win or lose,” added Gregorio.
Meralco broke the game open thanks to a 38-point second quarter output with 2009 NCAA MVP Wilson scoring 13 points in the period alone to lead, 54-36, at halftime.

As impressive as Meralco’s offense was, its defense was also in check – limiting Air21’s main offensive weapons Joseph Yeo and Asi Taulava to a minimum.
Yeo scored just 10 points while Taulava only had six points as the Express, who remained winless at 0-3, struggled mightily at the offensive end shooting below 40 percent from the floor.
Veterans Sunday Salvacion and Reynel Hugnatan added 15 points each for the Bolts.
