Several sports where Filipino athletes could strike gold are in peril of being sidelined from the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.

Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia yesterday announced that SEAG organizers released the lineup of disciplines in the biennial meet, with at least 14 sports favorable to the Philippines excluded from the list.

Equestrian, boxing, weightlifting, wrestling, rowing, modern pentathlon, handball and volleyball are not in the initial roster as well as karatedo, chess, muay, dancesport, soft tennis, baseball, bridge, petanque and lawn bowl.

Garcia said the non-inclusion of these disciplines is patterned after Myanmar’s hosting of the games on Dec. 11-22.

“There should be a better formula than the formula that was approved many, many years ago,” said Garcia during the Philippine Olympic Committee general assembly at Manila Golf Club.

Philippine Olympic Committee head Peping Cojuangco Jr. said they would appeal the inclusion of these sports in the SEAG federation meeting on Dec. 9 in Burma.
