MANILA, Philippines — Raul Soyud had a monster game as he steered Derulo Accelero to an 82-75 win over Arellano-Air21, their first, in the 2013 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup Thursday at the Blue Eagle Gym.

The center from University of Philippines unleashed a game-best double-double of 22 points and 23 big rebounds to lead the Oilers, who also have other reinforcements from the Maroons.

But Soyud stood out for Derulo Accelero, scoring 13 of his output in the pivotal fourth period. He also chipped in five assists, a steal and three blocks in 31 minutes of action.

“I’m sure they’re happy,” said head coach Paolo Mendoza of the win for his UP players, who have experienced winless seasons in the UAAP.

“But I told them let’s not get satisfied with just one victory,” he added as the Oilers are still way behind, just improving to 1-6 midway this conference.

Former University of Santo Tomas slinger Clark Bautista also had a solid showing for Derulo Accelero with 20 points built on five triples, along with five assists and three steals.

Soyud had crucial buckets down low late in the fourth even as Bautista nailed back-to-back triples to end any hopes of a comeback for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs reeled to their fifth setback.

Jiovani Jalalon led Arellano-Air21 with 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals, Joshua Webb and Moncrief Rogada then added 12 markers each.
