THE PHILIPPINES goes for a basketball world record as 24 players—male and female—attempt to play for more than 112 hours and score more than a combined 20,000 points in an event that the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipnas will hold early next year.
The country will try to break the world record currently held by the Missouri Athletic Club, whose members played for 112 hours and 13 seconds in March 2012.
“We’re [hoping to break] the world record and put the Philippines in the so-called world basketball map,” said Sonny Barrios, the executive director of the SBP, which is partnering with Access for the event.
Organizers will hold the initial tryout for the players participating in the event on Dec. 7 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the RTU gymnasium in Mandaluyong to be conducted by RTU head coach Johnedel Cardel.
Registration is ongoing at Toby’s Sports, Sports Central, Royal Sporting House, Timex and Coleman.
