MANILA, Philippines — Defending champion De La Salle cruised to a 25-14, 25-22, 25-19 win over Adamson in opening day of the UAAP Season 76 women’s volleyball tournament Sunday before a packed crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Mika Reyes, with her long limbs, provided the defense with four blocks while reigning co-MVPs Ara Galang and Abi Maraño combined for 28 hits for the Lady Archers, who got off to a good start in their bid for a fourth straight championship.

But as impressive as La Salle may have looked, their head coach Ramil de Jesus knows that the Lady Archers still have so much to show.

“Adamson’s service and reception was good and they got confidence [in the second and third set],” said de Jesus in Filipino. “[The team] still has a lot of adjustments to make and more practice.”

Amanda Villanueva led the Lady Falcons with 15 points while Sheila Pineda had 10 hits and six digs.
