The 15-year-old Japanese completed a title sweep in weeks 1 and 2 after clobbering Indonesian Rifanty Kahfiani, 6-2, 6-0, for the girls’ singles crown yesterday in the Phinma International juniors tennis championships at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
She also teamed up with compatriot Chichiro Muramatsu to beat Filipinas Roxanne Resma and Khim Iglupas, 6-1, 6-4, in the girls’ doubles.
Last week, she defeated fellow Japanese Saya Ito, 6-3, 6-4, for the singles title, before joining hands with Muramatsu in taking the doubles diadem over Ito and Haruna Arakawa, 6-4, 6-2.
Another Japanese shone as second-seeded Shoma Kato stopped last week’s champion Lin Wei-de of Chinese Taipei, 6-2, 6-4, in the boys’ singles final of the event backed by the Philippine Sports Commission, Dunlop Fort All Court Balls, Wilkins and Viva Mineral Water.
Japan’s Shohei Chikami and Yousuke Watanuki downed Lin and Malaysian Zhe Han Low, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, to rule the boys’ doubles in the event which featured some of the top juniors players in the Asia-Pacific region and the country’s leading netters. Marc Anthony Reyes
