MANILA, Philippines — Honey Royse Tubino recorded a tournament-high 29 points as defending champion Perpetual Help survived San Sebastian, 24-26, 25-22, 25-20, 15-25, 15-9, to get back on track in the NCAA Season 89 women’s volleyball tournament Monday at the Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Altas, aiming for a third straight championship, grabbed a 12-6 lead in the deciding set on a drop shot by reigning MVP Norie Diaz and never looked back as they snapped a two-game skid.
And while Perpetual Help relished under pressure, San Sebastian wilted with an error-filled outing — committing a tournament worst 45 miscues.
Diaz scored 15 points with three service aces and four digs as Perpetual Help improved to 3-2.
The Lady Stags, last year’s finalist, are now tied with the Lady Altas in fifth after reeling to their second consecutive setback.
Gretchel Soltones paced San Sebastian with 28 points while Czarina Berbano chipped in with 13.
