‘Rusty’ Capadocia boots out PCA foe

TOP SEED Marian Jade Capadocia launched her bid for a third straight women’s title in style, making light work of qualifier Kimberly Uytioco, 6-0, 6-0, yesterday in the 32nd Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open tennis championships at PCA’s covered clay courts in Paco, Manila.

Shrugging off a two-week layoff, the 18-year-old Capadocia ousted Uytioco in just 56 minutes.

Capadocia will face unseeded Marie Gold Nagret in the Last 16.

“My game is a little bit rusty because we haven’t had a lot of tournaments,” said Capadocia.

The other seeded bets also cruised to the Round of 16 with second ranked Anna Clarice Patrimonio, third seed Banga, No. 5 Hannah Grace Espinosa, seventh seed Khim Iglupas and eighth ranked Rachelle De Guzman also dispatching seperate rivals.

Patrimonio whitewashed Jella Jade Capadocia, 6-0, 6-0; Balanga eliminated Isabella Mendoza, 6-1, 6-4; Espinosa dumped Maria Angela Sunga, 6-2, 6-1; Iglupas trounced Andrea Nicole Amistad, 6-2, 6-2; and De Guzman eliminated Erika Manduriao, 6-3, 6-2.
