MANILA, Philippines — Perlas ng Pilipinas, the country’s women’s basketball team, trailed big early and was never able to recover as the Filipinos suffered a 36-75 beating at the hands of Thailand in the 27th Southeast Asian Games Tuesday at the Zeya-thiri Stadium in Myanmar.

The Philippines fell behind early, 0-10, as Thailand never looked back — padding onto its lead as the game went on.

The Filipinos shot just 16% from the field as they missed all of their 13 attempts from three-point range while the Thais made six out of their 17 shots from deep.

Analyn Almazan’s nine points led the Philippines, which went to the free throw line just seven times while Thailand went 17-of-20 at the stripe, to go along with her 15 rebounds.

Forward Juthamas Jantakan led the Thais with 22 points and 12 rebounds on top of four assists.

Mary Joy Galicia chipped in eight points and five rebounds off-the-bench for PH, which fell to 1-1 after beating Malaysia, 65-59, on Monday.
