MANILA, Philippines—Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares is not aware of boxing champion Manny Pacquiao’s tax liability in the United States.
“They do not coordinate with us nor us to them,” Henares told INQUIRER.net over the phone.
On whether it would affect the BIR’s bid to collect tax from Pacquiao, Henares declined to give details saying the Court of Tax Appeals had already issued a gag order.

However, she reiterated that they are not singling out Pacquiao. She said “any Filipino who earned income abroad during a temporary visit and paid the corresponding tax in that country would still have to submit documents to us as proof of tax payments.”
Henares pointed out that a tax treaty between two countries does not automatically free a Filipino who pays taxes in the US from fulfilling his obligation in the Philippines.
