It will be UAAP champion La Salle against Cebu’s Southwestern University in the finals of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL).
Jeron Teng fueled a strong windup as the Green Archers outlasted the NCAA champion San Beda Red Lions, 64-60, while the SWU Cobras stunned the Far Eastern U Tamaraws, 86-71, in their knockout duels yesterday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Game 1 of the best-of-three championship series fires off at 4 p.m. on Monday.
Teng unloaded 23 points, capped by a three-point play that pushed the Archers ahead, 60-58, with just 97 seconds left.
Jason Perkins (15 points and 14 rebounds) and Almond Vosotros (12 points) also drained a couple of buffer baskets inside the last 34 seconds to seal the Archers’ win.
“The players came up with big plays in the end and we got offensive rebounds here and there,” said La Salle coach Juno Sauler after the Archers clinched the win with a 9-2 run in the last two minutes.
Monbert Arong dropped 12 of his 23 points in the second quarter, where the SWU Cobras pulled away with a 22-9 outburst for their first double-digit advantage, 36-25, after trailing at 14-16.
