MANILA, Philippines — The Filipino bets in the taekwondo men’s poomsae competition scored two medals while the women’s team sputtered Wednesday in the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
The pair of Dustin Jacob and Enrico Mella ruled the men’s poomsae team category with 7.920 points, beating Indonesia (7.590) and Thailand (7.550) for the gold medal.
Vidal Marvin Gabriel, meanwhile, settled for silver (8.035) in the individual poomsae category where he was outpointed by Myanmar’s Thaw Zinhan (8.400).
Gabriel was also a victor in the 2011 games, where he took silver in the poomsae doubles and bronze in poomsae singles.
Janice Lagman, Rani Ortega and Rinna Babanto, the country’s women’s entries, dropped out of the podium after a gold finish in 2011, and wound up only fourth with 7.665 points.
Vietnam brought home the gold in that category with 7.950 points followed by Thailand (7.785), and Indonesia (7.670).
