Long-time friends AR Ramos and Miggy Yee opened with a five-over-par 77 under challenging conditions yesterday and took a one-stroke lead over brothers Basti and Santi Lorenzo in the NGAP’s National Doubles championship presented by the MVP Sports Foundation.
Ramos-Yee stood out on a humid and trying day at the up-and-down Eastridge course in Binangonan, Rizal, shooting just one birdie in the alternate shot format as the teams struggled, including the favored Raymart-Tolentino-Kristopher Arevalo partnership.
The Lorenzos birdied the 18th to place second heading into the four-ball (best ball) play today of the event forming part of the PLDT Group Amateur Tour and backed by Pancake House, Pacsports and Golf Depot.
Tolentino-Arevalo and Jonar Austria-GJ Katigbak had 79s.
Jed Dy, a former Callaway World Junior champion like Arevalo, and partner Ryan Monsalve led Group II with an 83.
