Big Chill, Jumbo fives try to sustain D-L run

JUMBO Plastic hops to draw another giant game from Jan Colina. AUGUST DELA CRUZ

Solo leader Big Chill tries to pull farther ahead as Jumbo Plastic bids to sustain its surprise surge against separate rivals in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup today at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Superchargers, assured of at least a quarterfinal berth, go for a 10th victory against the erratic Wangs Basketball at 12 noon.

Aiming to stay in the top three, the Giants tackle a tough foe in Blackwater Sports at 2 p.m., while Boracay Rum and Zambales M-Builders try to boost their quarterfinal campaign at 4 p.m.

“This game will determine whether my troops have what it takes to compete against a disciplined team like Blackwater,” Giants coach Steve Tiu said of the Elite, who ended NLEX’s league dominance by capturing last conference’s championship.

“We did pretty good in our first nine games. Now we’ll see if we can play in the next level.”

The Giants, who are gunning for an eighth victory, hacked out a 73-61 triumph over Derulo Accelero two days ago where Jan Colina starred with 19 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Colina, along with big men Jason Ballesteros and Marion Magat, had been delivering the goods in the Giants’ recent wins.

The league takes a break after today’s triple-header before action in the elimination round resumes on Jan. 6.
