Valley nails Fed League title

/ 11:29 PM December 19, 2013

Twice denied over the past three years, Valley finally put away the Men’s Federation Golf League title by beating Alabang in the finals.

Abbreviated wins in greensomes, high-low and aggregate at home did the trick for the Antipolo golfers who forced a 2.5-2.5 tie in their away game at Alabang, then dominated their rivals at home for a 7-3 victory.

Valley started its drive for its first league championship in 16 years by topping the eliminations and blasting Canlubang in the semifinals of the tournament organized by the Federation of Golf Clubs Philippines Inc.

FEATURED STORIES

Chino Raymundo and RJ Barreto drew first blood for Valley by routing Alabang’s Jimbo Inigo-Kent Deary, 6 and 4, in greensomes. Marvin Mendoza and junior player Aidric Chan followed suit in high-low by sending home Seve Roxas Chua-Dax Garcia, 5 and 4.

With Valley needing just a point to clinch the tie, Edmund Yee and Damasus Wong got the job done by besting Monchu Nolasco and Christopher Popp, 4 and 3, in aggregate play.

That made the other matches no bearing with Valley’s best-ball pair of Zaldy Villa-Chito Laureta agreeing to halve the point with OV Espiritu-Arnel Paras and Matt Mendoza-Justin Limjap upending Valley’s JB Garcia-Marvin Caparros, 3 and 2.
