Rising stars Ma. Dominique Ong and Erika Manduriao downed their rivals yesterday to set up a final duel in the premier girls’ 18-under class in the fourth PSC-Philta age-group tennis tournament at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The top-seeded Ong overcame a shaky start to beat Isabella Mendoza, 6-4, 6-2.
Manduriao advanced after Nicole Amistad defaulted their match in the event backed by Wilson Championship balls.
Vincent Trillanes shocked fourth ranked Emmanuel Vacalarez Jr., 6-4, 4-6 (10-7) to gain the boys’ 18-under quarterfinals even as No. 1 Jake Martin routed Javier Miguel De Jesus, 6-0, 6-0, to lead the 14-under last eight.
Also making it to the round are No. 6 Joseph Raymond Anida, who downed Jerome Ignacio, 6-4, 6-0, and No. 3 Justin Suarez, who also shut out Vryan de Asis, 6-0, 6-0, in the Group I tournament held in honor of Philippine Sports commissioner Buddy Andrada.
