Highlands ladies clinch third straight WGAP season sweep
Tagaytay Highlands preserved its status as the country’s top ladies golf club with another superb season stint, claiming both the Infinity WGAP Circuit and WGAP Cup championships for the third straight time.
The Highlanders fought back from a lethargic start to turn back Alabang and rule the three-stage WGAP Cup, thus capping another amazing season sweep.
They earlier clinched the WGAP Circuit title in emphatic fashion, sweeping three divisions in both the third leg at Forest Hills and the fifth leg at home at Midlands.
Finishing third with 2.0 points in the first leg (high-low format) at Canlubang, the Highlanders struck back in the second leg (greensome) at Forest Hills with 4.0 points. That cushioned the impact of their 1-point output in the final leg (best ball) at Orchard.
They pooled 7.0 points in the WGAP Cup, half a point ahead of Alabang, which fell short despite a fiery 3-point output in the final stage of the annual event which gathered the top five teams in the WGAP Circuit.
It was actually Tagaytay Highlands’ third straight sweep, earning the team the perpetual trophy designed by Impy Pilapil.
Aguinaldo, which ruled the first leg with 3.0 points, ended up third with 5.5, followed by Sta. Elena (4.0) and Villamor (3.0).
Jung Hee-kyung and Connie Mamaril defeated Villamor’s Marie Guerrero and Lisa Sarte, 4 and 3, while Diane Lee and Lilibeth de Villa routed Alabang’s Rita Horan and Mavis Deary, 5 and 4, to give Highlands two points in the high-low format.
The pairs of Sofia Kim-Marissa Vergara, Lee-Leyeza, Daniella Uy-Dionne Co, and Jung-Margaret Tan delivered the goods in the greensome.
Mabek Kawsek and Betsy Tuason grabbed the lone point for Highlands in best-ball, beating Aguinaldo’s Leni Cabili and Lanie Marasigan, 5 and 4.
Alabang rallied with 3.0 points in the concluding stage through Vids Torralba-Joyce Duque, Lolit Arguelles-Anna Haurie, and Arlene Barclay-Belinda Eberle.
