Ramos-Yee tops Doubles by one stroke

AR RAMOS and Miggy Yee both struggled in individual play yesterday but their combined 159 still proved good enough to win the NGAP’s National Doubles Championship presented by the MVP Sports Foundation at the well-manicured Eastridge course.

After blowing up on the par-5 second hole for a combined 20 strokes, Ramos-Yee played steadily on the back nine with a day-best three-over output that gave them a 305 total and a one-shot win over Jonar Austria and GJ Katigbak.

Ramos fired a six-over-par 78 and Yee had an 81 to complete a wire-to-wire chage in the event that is part of the PLDT Group Amateur Tour and backed by Pancake House, Golf Depot and Pacsports.

Austria fired a 75 but Katigbak could only match Yee’s 81 as they flubbed a golden chance to snatch the title even after Ramos scored an 11 and Yee a nine on the second hole.

Austria-Katigbak actually overhauled a four-shot overnight deficit after the second hole and took a four-stroke lead after the front nine only to lose five strokes in the last nine holes. Musong R. Castillo
