National U junior tossers sweep elims first round

National University rallied from two sets down to beat three-time girls champion De La Salle-Zobel, 15-25, 23-25, 25-8, 25-22, 15-10, and complete a first round sweep in the UAAP Season 76 high school volleyball tournament recently at UE Caloocan gym.

The Lady Bullpups went perfect in five matches to remain on course for their first-ever championship.

NU also swept its five boys matches by downing reigning nine-time champion University of the East, 12-25, 25-21, 26-24, 26-24.

University of Santo Tomas finished second in the first round with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-14 triumph over newcomer Adamson.

The Junior Tigresses tote a 4-1 record, behind the Lady Bullpups, while the Junior Lady Spikers placed third with a 3-2 slate.

The winningest boys squad with 12 titles, the Junior Warriors tote a 4-1 slate.

Ateneo, meanwhile, subdued La Salle-Zobel, 25-18, 25-18, 25-22, for its third win in five outings in third spot.

Second round action begins on Jan. 11.
