YOUNG champions Bianca Roxas Chua-Gotuaco and Gabriel Moreno have been cited as the “future of archery” after nailing outright berths in next year’s Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.
“I hope Panna (Philippine Archers’ National Network and Alliance) adds them to the national pool because they are part of the future of archery which is a priority sport,” said commissioner Jolly Gomez of the Philippine Sports Commission yesterday.
The archers, who have ruled the Batang Pinoy, Palarong Pambansa and Philippine National Games, train and compete through the help of the private sector and their parents.
As members of the national pool, they would get monthly stipends and other perks from the PSC.
Last November, Moreno, 15, topped the continental qualifying round for the YOG, beating 17 others in Chinese Taipei.
Gotuaco, 16, bagged a silver to make it to the second YOG set Aug. 16 to 21, 2014 in Nanjin, China.
