So shines as Webster U rules PanAm chess

FILIPINO super Grandmaster Wesley So continued his rampage as powerhouse Webster University Team A asserted its dominance in the 2013 Pan American Inter-Collegiate Chess Championship in Lubbock, Texas, on Sunday.

The 20-year-old So, a finance business sophomore, beat Conrad Holt of University of Texas at Dallas-A to raise his record to a perfect 5.0 points and boost his live Fide rating to a career-high 2727.6, good for 25th spot in the world.

With So at the helm, the all-GM Webster U also downed University of Chicago-A, Princeton University, University of Maryland Baltimore County-A, and Texas University-A in that order.

So’s other board 3 victims were Steven Rand, Jason Altschuller, Levan Bregadze and Elshan Moradiabadi, respectively.

So’s teammates were Vietnamese Le Quang Liem (board 1), George Meier (board 2) and Ray Robson, who matched So’s 5-of-5 record on board 4. Roy Luarca
