Galang soars as La Salle overpowers FEU in UAAP volleyball
MANILA, Philippines — La Salle overpowered Far Eastern University, 25-19, 25-17, 25-16, Sunday to keep its perfect slate in the UAAP season 76 women’s volleyball tournament.
Not only are the Lady Spikers on top of the standings at 5-0, they also have not lost a set since the tournament opened early in December.
Article continues after this advertisementAra Galang, who celebrated her 19th birthday last Saturday, was still focused as ever as she led onslaught for La Salle with 18 points, all but one from kills.
“Though it was my birthday last night, my focus was still on the game,” said Galang. “This is one of my birthday wishes. I really wanted to get back at FEU.
The Lady Spikers lost to the Lady Tamaraws last year in the 2013 Unigames.
Article continues after this advertisement“Since we lost to them, I told the girls that we should know our mistakes so we can play better,” said head coach Ramil de Jesus.
Abigail Maraño added 10 points for the Lady Spikers, who are nearing a first-round sweep.
“We’re still not yet done. We still have a lot to go through and other teams to face,” also said Galang.
The Lady Tamaraws managed to level with the Lady Spikers’ intensity early on, but they just didn’t have the firepower to match.
Geneveve Casugod led FEU with eight points, Marie Simborio added seven and Bernadette Pons and Joy Palma had six apiece.
FEU dropped to 2-3, tied with University of Santo Tomas at the fifth and sixth spots.
