THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD Jackie Tan-Ho pulled off a rousing come-from-behind victory in girls’ 14-under even as top seed Miguel Luis Vicencio and Cesar Kristoffer Salimbangon set up a title clash in boys’ 10-under unisex yesterday in the 25th Andrada Cup age group tennis championships.
Ho, an 8th grader at International School Manila, repulsed Kristin Renee Salimbangon, 1-6, 6-3, 10-8, to reach the quarterfinals after nearly two hours of play at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Meanwhile, top seed Rafaella Jean Villanueva reached the semifinals with Zethley Alferez and Frances Angelica Santiago.
Villanueva, daughter of Philippine Tennis Association vice president Randy Villanueva, outclassed Blanche Lagrisola, 6-1, 6-1, to advance against Alferez, who downed Mikaela Vicencio, 6-3, 6-3.
Santiago ripped Maxine Martin, 6-1, 6-1, and will face the winner between Ho and Chloe Saraza.
Vicencio and Salimbangon arranged a showdown for the 10-under title with lopsided wins over Rafael Liangco, 6-0, 6-2, and Ranier Angelo Selmar, 6-0, 6-1, respectively.
Top-ranked Eric Jed Olivarez and No. 2 seed Jerome Romualdez cruised to the semis in boys’s 16-under. Olivarez ripped Jeremiah Tomacruz, 6-0, 6-1, to advance against John Bryan de Casa, who thwarted Chris Justine Prulla, 7-5, 6-3.
Romualdez routed Aidyll Ignacio, 6-0, 6-1, and will next take on Emmanuel Vacalares Jr., who beat Emmanuel Fullas, 6-3, 6-0.
Aljohn Talatayod stunned top seed Mark Alfred Directo, 2-6, 6-3, 10-3, to advance to the finals of boys’ 12-under.
Boys’ 14-under top seed Arthur Craig Pantino towed Manuel Balce III, Jacob Martin and Joseph Raymond Anida to the semis.
