Tubino powers Lady Altas in rout of Lady Pirates in NCAA volleyball
MANILA, Philippines — University of Perpetual Help inched closer to a final four berth after turning back Lyceum, 25-10, 25-17, 25-20, Friday in the NCAA season 89 women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Altas picked up their sixth win, gaining half a game edge over San Beda and San Sebastian to stay in the thick of the race for the semifinals.
Honey Royse Tubino, fresh off a 30-point career game last Monday, was just as powerful as she led Perpetual Help with 19 points.
Reigning MVP Norie Diaz only had even points, but it hardly mattered as the Lady Altas dominated the Lady Pirates from start to finish.
It was only the third set that the also-ran Lyceum side put on resistance, closing in to within, 20-23, but Perpetual Help had built a huge enough lead to put the game away.
Coleen Bravo set up the Lady Altas for a win before an error from the Lady Pirates sealed it.
Analee Paredes and Jhemil Abadilla chipped in five marks apiece to top score for the Lady Pirates, which skid to 2-6.
