MANILA—Randy Paronda sustained his fiery form on a rainy Sunday as he completed his three-gold romp in the inaugural Philippine National Shooting Association Sniper Shooting Competition at the Taytay Tactical Rifle Range in Rizal.

With the inclement weather making it doubly tough for participants, Paronda, a shooting instructor, proved up to the task, tallying 286.76 points to best his student, Luis Gonzales, who wound up with 307.42.

“This wasn’t easy,” Paronda said of his victory in the first tournament held under the auspices of PNSA president and Harbour Centre CEO Mikee Romero.

“There’s no more doubt that Paronda is one of the deadliest shooters in the country today,” said Romero.

Gonzales, a former TV director and music composer, ruled the seniors’ division crown.

As expected, multititled Sgt. Allan Lao topped the master rifleman semi-auto standard division, while Lt. Gen. Roland Detabali cornered the expert rifleman semi-auto Open title.

The 30-year-old Lao posted 256.37 points to lead a 1-2 finish by Army in the division. Rodney Rizano settled for second with 306.23 points.

Detabali sparkled with 491.72 points, besting Genfred Martinez of the Marines with 505.17 points and Francis Perez with 535.67 points.
