Manila, Philippines–San Sebastian-Excelroof looks to stretch its unbeaten start to five games as it takes on an inconsistent Adamson squad Thursday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Gametime is at 6 p.m. with the Lady Stags hoping to sustain their relentless offensive that have allowed them to blow away half of the field early in the tournament.
“We can’t be happy with our position,” said San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb, who steered the Lady Stags to their only V-League title in the Season 5 second conference two years ago. “We have to be consistent.”
The game means more to the Lady Falcons, who will move into the quarterfinals with a victory over the Lady Stags.
Far Eastern U is also hoping to ride on the momentum of its recent triumph over Adamson when it battles newcomer National U at 4 p.m.
The Lady Tamaraws have looked the feared FEU team of old with back-to-back victories, the latest of which was a three-set conquest of Adamson last Sunday.
The acquisition of guest players Michelle Carolino and Rachelle Anne Daquis has worked wonders for FEU, which was once mired in a six-game V-League losing streak.
“The guest players are giving the rookie players confidence,” said FEU coach Nes Pamilar.
Perpetual Help, on a three-game skid, and St. Benilde, winless in four outings, collide in the first game at 2 p.m.
Languishing at the bottom of the standings, the Lady Altas and the Lady Blazers are hard-pressed to win their remaining matches to stay in the fight for a quarterfinal berth.
Thai import Jeng Bualee, the league’s scoring leader with a 21-hit clip, will once again be the focal point of the Stags’ attack with Suzanne Roces and mainstays Joy Benito, Melissa Mirasol, Elaine Cruz and Bamcie Belen forming a solid starting six.
Bualee is expected to encounter a tougher net defense this time with Adamson bannered by former national team standout Michele Laborte and Nerissa Bautista.
The Lady Bulldogs have turned out to be the surprise package of the tournament. After suffering a 0-3 loss to the Falcons, NU bounced back by downing Perpetual Help in straight sets.
