UAAP: FEU blanks Ateneo; UST holds UP to a draw in football
MANILA, Philippines — Pacesetting Far Eastern University scored a 3-0 shutout over reigning champion Ateneo in the UAAP Season 76 men’s football at the Moro Lorenzo Football Field.
Chy Villaseñor opened up the scoring binge for the Tamaraws in the 12th minute before Paolo Bugas and rookie Resty Monterona, who squeezed one in just before fulltime, made it 3-nil to give their team a league-leading 21 points.
Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas held shorthanded University of the Philippines to a 1-1 draw while National University surprised University of the East, 2-1, to keep their semifinals bid going.
Article continues after this advertisementFidel Kue gave UST a 1-0 headstart before Gabe Mendoza equalized for UP, which remained in second place with 16 points.
Despite the loss, the Red Warriors still lead the Growling Tigers but by only a point in the standings with 12.
The Bulldogs punched in two early goals with Paolo Salenga coming through in the 10th minute before Jay Abalunan followed it up six minutes later.

Arboleda chalked up his sixth goal of the season to tie Valyamor, who served a one-game suspension after already picking up two yellow cards this season, for the most goals scored by a player.
In women’s play, UST and defending champion FEU settled for a scoreless draw while the Ateneo-La Salle match ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
