Young Milo record-setters, Titong join PSA awardees
MANILA, Philippines – Two young record-breakers head the list of promising athletes who will be honored during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Awards Night this Saturday at Centennial Hall of Manila Hotel.
Regina Maria Paz Castrillo and Rafael Barreto, who shattered seven swimming records between them in the 2013 Palarong Pamabansa, will receive the Milo Junior Athletes of the Year award during the gala night that will gather the best in local sports.
“The award is presented to the top young athlete, male or female, who has consistently displayed exceptional athleticism in sports and demonstrated the values of leadership, discipline, perseverance, and integrity in life,” said Milo sports executive Andrew Neri.
Article continues after this advertisementMilo will also recognize Numeriano Titong, the first winner of the prestigious Milo Marathon in 1974 who now works as a golf caddy at Veterans Golf Club.
Titong’s feat will be cited as Milo celebrates its 50th year in the country. The three awardees join the illustrious list of local sports stars who will be feted for their impressive feat last year.
Gilas Pilipinas will receive the Athlete of the Year award for nailing a slot in the Fiba World Cup for the first time in 35 years after a runner-up finish in the Fiba Asia Men’s Championship last August.
