MANILA, Philippines — Fifteen-year-old  Khim Iglupas downed China’s Jue Wang, 7-5, 6-2, Wednesday to barge into the girls’ singles quarterfinals of the Hong Kong ITF juniors tennis championships.

Iglupas, one of the country’s most promising junior players, will next face second seed Eudice Chong of Hong Kong, who bundled out Thai Pornpawee Premthong, 6-1, 6-3.

A product of the Philippine Tennis Academy, Iglupas is looking for her first title in the Grade 4 event at Victoria Park. She reached the second round after a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Japan’s Miyo Kobayashi.

Ranked 603rd in the world in juniors, Iglupas is being honed to represent the country in the world juniors and Junior Fed Cup.  Marc Anthony Reyes
