MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University atoned for a shaky start by crushing University of the East in the second set to carve out a 20-25, 25-5, 25-18, 25-14 win Saturday in the UAAP season 76 women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Tamaraws squandered an early lead in the opening set, but never looked back in the second as they held the Lady Warriors to just five points, a season-low for the team.
FEU and UE played against the bright lights of the Mall of Asia Arena for the first time and Tamaraw Coach Shaq Delos Santos admitted that it needed some getting used to.
“It was hard to adjust, but we should’ve played more inspired because we’re playing at a good venue,” said Delos Santos.
“My players relaxed. We had a lot of errors today.”
Genevieve Casugod pumped in 16 points, including all but one of FEU’s seven blocks for pace the Lady Tamaraws, while Marie Simborio and Bernadeth Pons added 12 and 10.
The Lady Tamaraws improved to a 5-4, distancing itself from Adamson in their tight battle for the fourth spot in the standings.
Jan Michelle Manansala, meanwhile, had 12 points and Shaya Adorador added 11 for the Lady Warriors, who remained winless in nine outings.
