MANILA, Philippines – After failing to attend ceremonies honoring Filipinos who brought pride to the country, eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao finally received his Carlos P. Romulo award Tuesday.
The Sarangani Representative personally received the award given to people who showed strength and resilience and who gave honor to the country. It was not clear why Pacquiao failed to attend the Jan. 24 ceremonies.
Pacquiao bounced back in his boxing career, defeating Brandon Rios on Nov. 24, 2013 to win the World Boxing Organization International Welterweight Championship.
Before the Rios bout, Pacquiao suffered two heart-breaking defeats against Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez.
Other awardees were: Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario, Commission on Higher Education chairperson Patricia Licuanan and businesswoman-lawyer Loida Nicolas-Lewis.
