UFL: Phil Younghusband fuels Loyola win; Stallion trips Kaya

MANILA, Philippines –Phil Younghusband sparkled with a goal and an assist as Loyola Meralco Sparks scored an emphatic 3-0 win over Green Archers United Tuesday night to extend their unbeaten United Football League start to six matches at Emperador Stadium in Taguig.

The national team star opened the scoring in the 16th minute before turning provider 20 minutes later for the second goal scored by Matthew Hartmann.

But the Sparks needed to survive some anxious moments in the early stages of the second half before Jake Morallo’s stoppage time strike sealed the win that jacked up Loyola’s tally to 12 points—six clear off their nearest rivals Global, Kaya and Pachanga.

“I think more than being at the top of the table, it’s the way the team is playing,” said Loyola coach Vince Santos on his team’s strong start to the triple round competition.

Later, defending champion Stallion subdued Kaya, 1-0, for its first victory of the season.

The win increased Stallion’s tally to five points for fifth spot while Kaya lost for the second time in four matches.
