Prisaa slates 18 sports for Nationals

MANILA, Philippines — The country’s top student-athletes will dispute honors in 18 sports when the 2014 Prisaa (Private Schools Athletic Association) National Games gets going from April 6 to 12 in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

“Through the coming games, we hope to develop young athletes who could represent our country in international competitions,” said Prisaa national chair Dr. Emmanuel Y. Angeles.

The roster of team sports includes baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, football, sepak takraw, softball and volleyball.

Competitions are also scheduled in athletics, badminton, boxing, chess, dance sports, judo, karate-do, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis and taekwondo.

Provincial and city collegiate games followed by the regional collegiate games will be held to determine the participants in the National Games that was revived in 1990 when Angeles took over at the helm.

“Prisaa is committed to harness the potentials of student-athletes, trainers, coaches, sports directors, physical education instructors, technical officials and other stakeholders of member-schools for excellence in sports,” said Angeles.

Spicing up the sporting competitions are academic contests in debate, declamation and oration and cultural competitions in vocal solo, vocal duet and pageant night and Mutya ng Prisaa. With a report from Roy Luarca
