NCAA: Altas near ‘four-peat’ after game 1 win over Generals
MANILA, Philippines — Perpetual Help is on track for a double championship in the NCAA season 89 volleyball as the Altas clinched game one of the men’s titular showdown with 25-18, 25-21, 25-23 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College Friday.
The Altas, closing on a “four-peat,” have won 46 straight matches since season 86 and are poised to wrap up the series in a sweep with a victory in Game 2 slated on Monday.
Earlier Friday, the Lady Altas survived Arellano in five sets to also zero in on a third straight title.
Article continues after this advertisementJay dela Cruz had 12 hits and six digs for Perpetual Help, which dominated EAC in every aspect, while reigning MVP Edmar Sanchez also had 12 points.
Only five players got into scoring for the Generals, who are on the brink of losing their title shot to the Altas for the second straight year.
Kerth Melliza and Howard Mojica had 15 points each to lead EAC, while Sid Gerella, Hariel Doguna and Francis Yu combined for 12 points.
