MANILA, Philippines—National University stopped Mark Gil Alfafara and University of Santo Tomas, 25-22, 20-25, 16-25, 25-21, 15-11, Saturday in the UAAP season 76 men’s volleyball tournament.
The Bulldogs’ multi-pronged attack neutralized even Alfafara’s incredible 34-point showing for the Tigers, with five players scoring at least 11.
Reuben Inaudito paced the league-leading NU with 19 points, while Peter Torres and Jan Paglinawan contributed 14 each.
Edwin Tolentino and Reyson Fuentes added 12 and 11 points, respectively for the Bulldogs, who are still atop the heap with a 10-1 slate.
The Tigers failed to close the gap in the chase for the fourth spot as they fell to 4-6, tied with La Salle and behind Adamson (5-5).
In the other game, Ateneo had it easy against winless University of the East for a 25-20, 25-33, 25-12 win.
Marck Espejo led the Blue Spikers, who improved their hold of the second place with an 8-1 card, with 16 points while Joshua Villanueva had 11.
The Red Warriors are left with three more games to notch their first victory of the tournament.
