MANILA, Philippines–Adamson and De La Salle cruised to lopsided victories Saturday as they continued to hold fort in softball and women’s volleyball, respectively, in UAAP Season 76.
Ferocious on both ends, the Lady Falcons crushed the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors, 8-2, to remain unbeaten in 11 games in softball at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The victory was Adamson’s 45th straight in a run that dates back to Season 73.
Over at Filoil Flying V Arena, the Lady Spikers were just as ruthless, whipping University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons, 25-15, 25-23, 25-12.
With the win, De La Salle extended its unbeaten streak to 27 matches since last season. The Lady Spikers are now three wins away from an outright finals berth and a thrice to beat advantage.
Ara Galang finished with 17 points, including three service aces, and had six digs for De La Salle, while last season’s co-Most Valuable Player Abi Maraño added 11 points, including two blocks, and seven digs.
The Lady Falcons bombarded UE’s pitchers with 11 hits, sealing the romp as early as the fourth inning.
In other matches, National U scored a 9-5 trouncing of Ateneo to improve to 8-3.
In men’s volleyball, defending champion NU spoiled Mark Alfafara’s 34-point performance for UST with a 25-22, 20-25, 16-25, 25-21, 15-11, to secure a playoff for the second semifinals bonus. The Bulldogs jacked up their record to 10-1. Cedelf P. Tupas
