MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University strengthened its grip of the fourth seed after it reasserted its mastery of University of Santo Tomas, 26-24, 25-18, 25-18, Sunday in the UAAP season 76 women’s volleyball tournament.
Tin Agno, who missed most of the FEU last game due to a knee injury, returned to aid Bernadeth Pons, and Toni Basas in delivering the win for the Lady Tamaraws.
“We’re very happy because almost everyone contributed. It’s always good for us if all of them step up at the same time, said head coach Shaq Delos Santos.
Pons, who has made it clear that she’s the best rookie this year, was at her usual best with 12 hits, while Basas and Agno delivered key figures with eight and 14 digs, respectively.
“We saw that they did good in training, so we hoped they would carry it over to the game and that’s what happened,” Delos Santos, who faced his former team, said with a smile.
FEU booked its sixth win in 11 games to also move ahead in the chase for the last semifinals berth over fifth-running Adamson University (5-6).
The Tigresses, meanwhile, are in real danger of missing the Final Four for the second straight season after this setback, their seventh in 11 matches.
Jem Gutierrez had nine markers while Pam Lastimosa and Carmela Tunay struggled to finish only with six hits apiece for UST.
